NC SAVAN/VINELink can corroborate a custody change for a specific person, but it is a notification source rather than a permanent photo archive. North Carolina eCourts can add the case outcome. Neither should be treated as the original county photograph.

Transylvania Sheriff App Mugshots
The official Transylvania County Sheriff app has separate features titled Inmate Search, Recent Arrests, Jail FAQs, VINELINK, and the SBI Sex Offender Registry. This is a locally important split. A photo in Recent Arrests documents a booking publication. It does not say the person was later released, transferred, convicted, or cleared.
The County of Transylvania is listed as the official iOS app publisher. The Sheriff app web interface provides the same local agency context, and the app identity is captured below.
The Android listing uses package com.ocv.a721. The app configuration exposes real-time jail-booking feeds, but the feeds returned empty arrays during one review. That observation does not establish that the features are permanently empty. Check the rendered app, read the label, and use a separate release record before calling any pictured person released.
Transylvania Mugshot Publication Limits
The local official ecosystem separates current inmates, recent arrests, and VINELINK. That design makes the evidence boundary visible. Current inmate data concerns present jail custody. Recent Arrests concerns booking activity. VINELINK concerns a specific custody event or alert. No one feature is an official released-person mugshot gallery.
No official source reviewed established a Transylvania County duty to publish every booking photo or keep each photo online forever. The public jail display can change even while an inactive incarceration record remains under a records schedule. Likewise, disappearance from the live roster does not erase the underlying file and does not explain whether the exit was community release, transfer, correction, or another outcome.
The sampled county released-detail record showed no photograph, release time, or release type. If a photo is absent, request it from the custodian. Do not fill the gap with an unrelated image, an old photo from another booking, or an unverified commercial page.

- Ask for the booking photograph tied to that exact custody episode, separate from the entry/release summary.
- Request the original electronic image or clearest lawful version, and ask whether a file is an original or a derived thumbnail.
- Ask for release date, release or transfer type, and the public authorizing record so the photograph can be placed in context.
- Prefer electronic uncertified copies and request a cost estimate before extensive search or redaction work begins.
- If access is denied, ask for the statutory basis and whether any public portion can be separated.
G.S. 132-6 requires access at reasonable times and copies as promptly as possible, but sets no fixed statewide response deadline. G.S. 132-6.2 generally caps ordinary uncertified copies at direct reproduction cost and allows a reasonable special service charge for extensive work. Narrow scope reduces search and review effort.
Verify Transylvania Mugshot Context
A lawful copy still needs a record trail. Confirm that the photo belongs to the named booking, then compare the sheriff’s entry/release summary with the Transylvania court case. The county record can establish the time and type of sheriff custody end. The court file can explain bond, dismissal, acquittal, judgment, sentence, probation, or another legal event. Transylvania Expunction and Mugshots
An expunction is a legal process that removes and seals or destroys qualifying state arrest, charge, or conviction records. A Transylvania petition is generally filed with the local clerk when the charge or conviction occurred in the county. North Carolina Judicial Branch expunction guidance lists many separate statutes, so eligibility and waiting time depend on the case.
The general filing fee is $175, with statutory exceptions, including many dismissed or not-guilty matters unless dismissal followed diversion or deferred prosecution. A person who cannot pay may seek an indigency waiver. The Judicial Branch warns that processing can take several months. Once a case is sealed or expunged, it is no longer publicly visible in Portal.
That absence is not evidence that no booking or release ever occurred. It is also not a reason to reconstruct removed information through an aggregator. If an official source has sealed, expunged, or removed a record, contact the original publisher with the order and identify the exact image or page. Another system usually cannot edit the custodian’s record.
Correct Transylvania Mugshot Errors
No verified North Carolina anti-pay-to-remove statute was found in the official-source sweep. That negative finding should not be replaced with a broad promise of free removal or a claim that payment is required. Avoid commercial removal services and send a focused accuracy or removal request to the office that published the photograph.
Preserve a copy of the questioned page, its access date, the displayed booking number, and the official order or identity record that shows the problem. Explain whether the image is the wrong person, wrong booking, stale custody label, missing disposition, or a record affected by a sealing or expunction order. Ask the source to correct its own record. The sheriff controls county booking fields, the clerk controls court data, and NCDAC controls state offender information.
If a third party copied the photo, supply that publisher with the official correction or order. Do not pay merely to make an unsupported claim disappear. A photo should be treated as a historical record tied to a date, not as a lasting label for a person.
Transylvania News Photo Checks
The sheriff’s official news or social channel may publish an arrest image for a public-safety release. Local news may reproduce an official image. Such publication proves only that the image appeared in that context. It does not prove present custody, community release, conviction, or the final court result.
Check the publisher, publication date, stated agency, and case identifier. Then return to the sheriff record and court file. Commercial mugshot and pay-to-remove sites are not recommended because they can be stale, misidentify people, or omit a later disposition. No commercial mugshot source should replace the original record.
