If two sources conflict, preserve the field labels and access times instead of choosing the simpler answer. A sheriff release timestamp can follow the court order because staff must receive and process it and may need to clear other holds.
Transylvania County Sheriff VINELink Alerts
Transylvania County has a distinctive local route into the statewide service. The official Sheriff app configuration lists separate features for Inmate Search, Recent Arrests, Jail FAQs, VINELINK, and the state sex offender registry. The VINELINK feature points users toward a specific-person custody and notification tool. By contrast, Recent Arrests is a booking feed. It must not be treated as a release list.
This local layer makes NC SAVAN more useful for a future change than browsing recent arrest entries. A registrant can select phone, email, text, or TTY, and phone notice uses the PIN acknowledgement process. Still, the app does not replace the source record. A Transylvania County release should be confirmed with the sheriff summary, while state release or supervision should be confirmed through NCDAC.
The split also guards against a common error. A photo or booking entry in Recent Arrests proves publication of an arrest record, not that the person is now in custody or has been released. The VINELink alert addresses a custody change, and the entry/release summary documents the county event. Each tool has a narrow job.
When the app and VINELink show different snapshots, check when each was accessed and which feed supplied the field. A narrow NCDAC public-record request can seek the offender and release history, specifying whether the needed event is prison release, release to supervision, or final discharge. This distinction prevents a Transylvania County VINELink alert from being stretched beyond what the feed reports.
NC SAVAN policy also lists notifications for selected transfers, escape, death, and supervision events. Those event types make the service broader than a simple jail roster, but they demand precise wording. A transfer alert should name the receiving custodian when known. A projected date should stay labeled projected. Release with supervision should not be described as unconditional discharge. If the feed offers only a general status, use OPI or the sheriff record to identify the exact event before sharing it.
